The LA River

Stretching 50 miles long, The Los Angeles River starts in the Santa Susana Mountains and travels directly through the centre of the city dividing downtown from the East side of Los Angeles before reaching the mouth of the river in Long Beach. I focused my adventures of the LA River on the portion that runs south of Los Feliz to the city of Vernon covering the entire area of downtown Los Angeles.

The river for me is a place where all is calm in the midst of chaos. Where the historic side of Los Angeles is still alive while the downtown portion is quickly being transformed into high priced lofts and coffee shops. For me, this is where the heart and soul of Los Angeles lies.
